When it comes to housecleaning, the ceiling is often overlooked. It is out of sight, out of mind.
You may even think your ceiling does not get dirty. Unfortunately, they do get dirty. Dust
collects over time and produces a dingy looking ceiling. Splatters happen, causing stains. So
how do you clean your ceiling, keeping it fresh and bright? Here are a few methods you can try.
Whether you have popcorn ceilings or flat ceilings, vacuuming is a great way to collect dust and
other particles from your ceiling. If your vacuum has attachments, use the bristle brush,
extending the wand if possible. The bristle brush attachment will be able to delicately brush
over the popcorn texture, as well as glide over a flat surface ceiling without scratching it.
Use a traditional duster. This works especially well on a flat ceiling. Utilize a step ladder and
work your ceiling a section at a time, dusting back and forth. Better yet, get a duster with an
extension handle.
A microfiber floor sweeper is another great option for a flat surface ceiling. Simply dry dust it as
you would your floor, in a systematic, back and forth motion. If you need a little more than dry
dusting, dampen a clean microfiber cloth and repeat the process.
Use a paint roller. Make a gentle cleaning mixture, or just water, to moisten the paint roller. Roll
your ceiling as if you were painting it. Be sure not to get your ceiling too wet, just damp. You
might even dry roll it after, to absorb any excess moisture. This method works for all ceiling
types, but especially the popcorn texture.
You may not look up at your ceiling often. However, knowing it is clean will give you peace of
mind, not to mention a healthier home! We hope one of these methods will work for you to
clean your ceiling successfully.
